15/30 Free Hours Explanation
The Government funding for 15 or 30 free hours is based on a term structure of 38 weeks per year, during which funding is provided for these hours each week. However, since MEplace operates year-round, the funding is adjusted on a pro-rata basis to align with our operational schedule.
How Pro-Rata Funding Works
- 15 Hours Funding: The Government funds 15 hours per week for 38 weeks, totalling 570 hours per year (15 hours/week × 38 weeks). The adjusted funding covers approximately 10.96 hours per week for the entire year instead of the full 15 hours during the funded term time.
- 30 Hours Funding: For those eligible for 30 free hours, the Government provides funding for 30 hours per week for 38 weeks, totalling 1,140 hours per year (30 hours/week × 38 weeks). When distributed across the whole year, the funding covers approximately 21.92 hours per week instead of 30 hours during term time.
This pro-rata adjustment ensures the funding aligns with our operational schedule.
